Perry is a Chicago native, she was born into Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. The role of Jackie Harris was played by her mom in both of her two appearances on Roseanne. Perry claimed that she was too shy to act at the age of 16, but she began performing in the theater at Northwestern University as a way to make friends after transferring from Boston University. Perry, after graduating from Boston University, relocated in New York in search of acting roles on television. Her small part was on shows such as Law & Order: Criminal Intent. But, her home-sickness brought her back to California in search of theater jobs. She performed on Broadway with her mother in The Other Place with her mother in 2013. The father of her Kevin McKidd performed in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer prize-winning film Anna Christie together with her in the year 2015. Perry appeared in 9 episodes of ABC's thriller The Family during 2016. In 2017 she had her own recurring part on her own ABC Political thriller Scandal with her father. In the same year, her character was cast a young model of Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) in Young Sheldon, a spin-off of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory again as a teen version of her mother's role. She was cast in the role despite her close family connection to the character.
